Adidas Lillard 2 – Rise of a Star

Damian Lillard is probably one of the most valuable young stars in the NBA. Rookie of the Year of 2012, 2 times All-Star, Lillard has had two extremely successful seasons in the Portland Traiblazers shirt. Especially last season, he got 27 points / game with 44.4% efficiency, 4.9 rebounds / game and 5.9 assists / game. Just as “modest” as Lillard, his shoe line is also increasingly known more and more thanks to its affordable price and extremely stable performance. As the 4th edition of the adidas Dame is about to be released, let’s take a look at what makes the adidas Lillard such a popular shoe line. One characteristic of adidas, especially in basketball shoes, is that it has always had a habit of using quite a few materials on the same shoe. Lillard 2 was released in two versions using Jacquard woven fabrics, but since then, there have been no versions of the same material. One reason for this is that because the shoes have a thick and smooth layer of neoprene bootie located inside the main material layer, adidas can freely experiment with different materials. EACHSHOES’s version is “Year of the Monkey” made from synthetic leather like “Dame’s Time”, the other versions are mainly made of net fabric.

The height of the shoe is only a little higher than the low-necked shoes, in return we have thick padding and large heel block gives a very distinctive look. The two sides of the shoe body also have a plastic frame that helps to embrace the legs and increase the stability.

Lillard 2’s emblem is inspired by his childhood with names like Oakland or Brookfield on it. The stitches in the nose are quite tight, so the dust resistance is a bit poor, but it makes the base more durable.

Inner bootie is the easiest and most direct way to make a pair of shoes, and Lillard 2 is no exception. Buy it in half a size and you’ll feel the comfort from the smooth cushioning of the shoe body as well as the ruggedness of the sole. In rare cases, you may feel a little slack, especially when you first walk. Please take the trouble to go 1.2 times to soften the sole and follow your feet better.

Insertion into Lillard 2 is still a bit difficult because the collar is not really stretchy. In return, the feeling after going in is very comfortable compared to other mid-neck shoes. The insoles are nothing special but the Bounce cushion is quiet enough.

Lillard 2 is one of the few couples I have tested in Vietnam, more precisely at the Air Force Air Force field outside Hanoi. With such pitches, Lillard 2 shows absolutely no signs of slippery.

On standard wooden decks the Lillard 2 is still very reliable and only lags slightly when there’s too much dust. One thing to note is that versions with perforated rubber soles are usually made from Continental rubber and this YoTM version is not. As a rule of thumb, those versions will have a more stable grip so you don’t have to worry about a version you can buy like Nike. A minus point is that the base of Lillard 2 is very easy to stick to gravel because the distance between the cleats is too close.

Outdoor is probably not a problem with Continental models due to the dense nebula in the nose. Similarly, the edge will “shatter” first if you use Lillard 2 to “plow”.

This was probably the most valuable point of Lillard 2 when adidas equipped the shoes with the thickest Bounce mattress of the time. Bounce was first used on Rose 773 IV and Light Em Up 2 but was much thinner and did not have the same consistency. Basically, Bounce behaves exactly like Nike’s new React with a hard outer shell and a softer and more bouncy cushion on the inside.

Due to the fundamental difference between Bounce and Boost you will not have a feeling of floating especially in heels. However, the Bounce nose is sometimes even quieter than Boost. Try going downstairs when your feet are extremely drowning and feel the smoothness of the cushion above the surface.

In most other cases, the Bounce satisfactorily does its job of supporting and damping the foot. The sensitivity and thickness of Lillard 2 are also average, different from the “close to the ground” standard that PG shoes tend to target.

Perhaps the adidas concept when designing the Lillard 2 was “a solid yet versatile shoe” at Damian’s own suggestion. The foundation made from Bouce cushions and the wide base layer is the most obvious proof. The wide sole area provides the necessary stability for the rider, and the groove in the heel also contributes to the shoe’s response to tipping.

Another noteworthy point is the two plastic rims on both sides of the shoe body. This element forms a sturdy frame that restricts the lateral movement of the foot without adding too much weight. Although the fabric layer in the “Year of the Monkey” version contributes to the increased certainty, this frame is the main factor.

For a shoe size 1/4 (half low half mid), the Lillard 2 is extremely stable and sufficient for all positions.

With the cheapest price among signature shoes, Lillard 2 is of course ranked in the top of the most valuable shoes of 2016. Currently you can buy other color schemes for prices from 1t5 to 2t. The simple, neat design gives Lillard 2 a foothold in both your basketball shoe cabinet and outings. Lillard 2 is also one of the few shoes that are difficult to criticize in recent years.
