Review Nike PG 4 in detail

Review Nike PG 4 in detail

I have never been disappointed with such a signature shoe at the time of launch, but PG 4 was really a big surprise once I brought it to the field.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

I. Design, Material

The inner-bootie design comes with a fabric cover and zippers that are back and worse than before. In fact, the concept image of PG 4 is very cool, but somehow when the product comes out, it is a bit “dumb”.

The bootie part is made with a height of about 3/4, half low, half mid and hugs below the ankle for maximum flexibility. The reed-high “shell” part also helps to make the shoe appear a bit taller. Bootie material is quite thick and many padding on the tongue and heels, while the shell is made of fabric and mesh fabric. The “tight” outside emphasizes the firmness while the inside from the mesh fabric reveals the inner structure.

The midsole cushion is made of a very stretchy and soft foam on the legs that Nike has never really named. The base pattern consists of a circular shape and omnidirectional little tabs used for storytelling. This is also the first time that the convex sole design has been removed from the PG series.

And Nike’s new secret this time is that the full-length Air strobel board is placed under the extra thick pad and a thin fabric layer. Have you started to be curious yet? :))

Evaluate:

  • Hug
  • Pole hugging
  • Fit from half to 1 size tight
  • The strap system is easy to pull the strap, customized according to your preferences
  • No need to break in

The nose material is quite sturdy Normally I always go from 10, 10.5 but PG 4 goes to size 11 and I don’t see any problem at all. The width of PG4 is quite ok but the length is quite short. In return, the set of 10 strap on the 2 sides of the shoe helps to hug the foot extremely firmly and completely do not worry about the size increase but wide.

Fun Fact: PG 4 is also the only pair on Nike.com that has to say “go up 1 size because these are tight.” The heel is designed with a high heel block with thick padding, so it doesn’t make you suffer. heel slipping. The extremely thick yet flexible midsole also makes break-in unnecessary.

Besides PG 3, PG 4 is actually not much lower.

/ Update: I tried size 10.5 and even though it’s a bit tight, it’s also a good choice. So sum up to go PG4 should be at least 0.5 size like Kobe line.

III. Adhesion

Evaluate:

  • Multi-directional texture, good grip
  • Average durability is quite good

If you have not noticed, the circle is the main design of this PG 4 time model, it is shown in the shoe box, midsole and most in this outsole. The circles with small spots such as the combination of PG 1 (including the whole notch) and PG 3 (including the circle only) provide extremely stable grip on the pitch surface. I have tried the clean wooden yard, dust wood, plastic, to the beautiful outdoor yard, I did not have any problems with grip.

The area around the nose groove is also the area that is most likely to be worn out

The version I use has an XDR base, so the beautiful outdoor decks do not affect it at all. After testing at Phuong Nam school yard for 5.6 consecutive sessions, I have not seen any clearly worn sections. For you to compare, my KT 5 and Kobe 5 Protro have worn out after 3 sessions on the same field. Thanks to the quite “flat” cleat design with dense density, even the version without XDR will also help you stay on beautiful outdoor grounds for a long time. Similar to the old PG 3 models, you should avoid plowing on cement grounds. In return, PG 4 is one of the safest shoes in the line about outdoor abilities as well as the easiest shoes to stick to when worn.

New PG 4 vs PG 4 played outdoor rough ~ 10 sessions.

IV. Buffer / Cushioning

Evaluate:

  • Smooth over the entire soleplate
  • Air is not exposed but very sensitive
  • There is a possibility of a foam “falling” due to its softness
  • Extremely good damping

A signature pair with foam and Air (almost) like basketball shoes nearly 40 years ago, disappointment was evident on my face when I heard this news. The point that makes me feel the most comforting is that the cushion looks porous and light, not “as hard as Kyrie”. Note: the noun “as hard as Kyrie” is for Kyrie’s Ice-cans like is Kyrie 2, Kyrie 3, Kyrie 5. A material used by some other models (such as Soldier 10), but in Kyrie it has been raised to a new level.Note 2: Phylon on the Kyrie line is still capable. but to enhance the sensitivity of Kyrie Irving, there is very little bounce and “quiet” remaining.

Back in PG 4, I just remember that I took it straight to the football field, went in and didn’t go any other pair until I got the Kobe 5 Protro. Simply because it’s so quiet !!! Most of the damping is handled by a tough foam layer (similar to PG 3, Soldier 12, CP3 11). You can stay in these shoes without any discomfort. As soon as you put on your shoes, you will be able to admire the smoothness of the ultra-thick Ortholite (6mm according to Nike). This is a “luxury” that rarely appears on basketball shoes of big brands. The minus point of Ortholite is that it is quickly flat, but with such a thick liner, I’m not afraid.

Underneath the shoe lining is the Air strobel, covered with a thin cloth. And the truth is, this piece of Air is very pleasurable. At each point where you put downward pressure, it can instantly contract and “bounce” when you move to another point. It’s not as plump as the Zoom Air on the KD 12, but it’s very responsive because the Air piece itself is already thin and clearly “split”. (The strobel is the separator between the insole and the midsole, which is made of one. thick cloth even carton for strength. Some brands have extra enhancements such as foam lining in this area).

To describe more about the PG 4 buffer, I want to use the words “full” and “even”, the amount of cushion you get in all positions is almost the same and very “happy feet”. PG 4 is not really thick either (the foam on the outside is just upholstery, not the real height of the midsole) so you won’t have problems with pitch or support (more on that later). when running from heel to nose is almost perfect. The only reason you don’t like this Air Strobel setup is either you hate Paul George or you hate Nike. The durability issue is not worth mentioning because even if the foam is flat, the Air piece will still be there and you can replace a new insole after 1 year of use.

V. Support

Evaluate:

  • “Not bad”
  • Fit well thanks to the design of the bootie and strap
  • Advanced midsole provides anti-roll

In addition to the appearance and the buffer, the support ability of PG 4 also made me quite thoughtful at first. But after testing for more than a dozen sessions, I can say that PG 4 is not bad at support. Firstly, the strap system helps to “pull” your feet close to the base and the outer fabric does not stretch. Comfortable upper layer but not “soft”. In this respect, PG 4 is better than a senior, HyperRev 2014.

Plus the cushion looks thick but has a small “fake” space and is used to wrap around the foot. This also means that the sole area of PG 4 is slightly larger than usual and has a higher stability.

Your feet should be in this range: v One detail I just realized is that there is a bit of “stiffness” in the midfoot, perhaps a piece of shank placed in this range.

PG 4 is not really an easy shoe either. After all, the PG 4 is still a pretty minimal shoe, but thanks to the use of the small details above, it is not “weak” as it looks. In general, the support ability of the shoes is quite enough, enough for my 90kg body to try the euro step without problems.

BECAUSE. Conclusion – Nike PG 4

Pros:

  • The design is simple and effective
  • Fit is great
  • The buffer is extremely quiet, thick
  • The base is low on dust
  • Good support

Cons:

  • Van sole is still a bit thin to outdoor
  • Shoe insoles and midsole are capable of deflating over time because the crime is too mild

PG 4 is suitable for any position and almost any style of play. Unless you find it too ugly on your feet or afraid of a low neck, PG 4 will make you happy. With a decent price ($ 120), PG 4 deserves to be this year’s flagship signature shoe for Nike with the ability to compete directly with Don Issue and Dame. Personally, I see that PG 4 is not really superior to Don # 1 and Dame 5 but Don # 2 and Dame 6 are quite worse than PG 4.
