Since her first appearance on Kanye West’s feet, Yeezy Powerphase has aroused a lot of curiosity about her strange resemblance to Reebok Workout. And so the war broke out. Kanye’s fans said that he has nothing to do with stealing the idea of a brand like Reebok, while the antifans compare the images of the two products.

YEEZY Powerphase or Reebok Workout

In fact, we cannot deny that both shoes have astonishing resemblance to them. While Reebok Workout has been around for a long time, Yeezy Powerphase has been introduced recently. However, one factor to remember is that adidas has owned Reebok since 2005. This explains the fact that if Powerphase is similar to Workout, it is only a design inheritance.

YEEZY Powerphase or Reebok Workout

So why should we spend at least twice as much money (retail prices sometimes quadruple) to own Yeezy Powerphase instead of buying Reebok Workout. The answer is simple because it says Yeezy, a collaboration between Kanye West and adidas. For many people, especially Kanye fans, this price is absolutely worth it.

Going back to the pre-existing Reebok Workout or the pre-existing Yeezy Powerphase, one piece of information you may not know about is that the Powerphase is a product line that was introduced by adidas in the 1980s. Later, perhaps out of love for the design and wanting to bring this line back, Kanye West brought the shoes back on, and of course he succeeded. And to answer the question of which shoe comes first, let’s take a look at the history of both product lines.

In the 1980s, Reebok was the top sports fashion brand in the world, standing above both Nike and adidas in the hottest sneakers of the time. When Reebok Workout was launched, Jane Fonda – the top gymnast at that time was chosen to represent this new product.

Jane Fonda for Reebok

Specifically, Reebok Workout was released in 1984, is the complete successor to the Reebok Freestyle (1982) launched earlier. Both were the first shoes to feature the brand’s logo with the flag next to it.

Two years later, in 1986, adidas introduced Jet, a product of the Magic line collection with a design similar to the Workout but with a larger shoe form. Not long after, Jet was revamped into Power Phase (two separate words) and appeared in a promotional video. A young man is lost in a closed room, with no way out. Suddenly a pair of shoes appeared, nothing but Power Phase. So the guy put on his shoes and got super powers walking on the super high jump wall flying through phenomena. Thanks to that he went to roam in the city.

In 1988, adidas introduced a turtleneck version of the Power Phase with a headband. The adidas also doesn’t forget to add a fabric lining to increase the comfort of the shoe, along with EVA pads and a rubber sole.

Over time, Power Phase did not receive much reception from the sneakerhead community around the world. However, adidas decided to bring this design back in 2014 for a gentle price of only 79 USD (then had to drop it down to 49 USD because it was too low).

And everything changed on March 28, 2017 when Kanye West introduced Yeezy Powerphase (two words attached) in the Calabasas collection. Thanks to that, people knew more about the shoe, and even loved it because it was simply a product of Kanye.

Okay, so we all seem to have an answer for who adidas and Reebok is copying. The theory suggests that the Reebok Workout comes first, but the fact that somewhat similar sneaker designs that were on adjacent shelves in the past is not too strange, not to mention that adidas has already bought Reebok.

So what is the conclusion of EACHSHOES? As a sneakerhead, love shoes and learn about it. Not just out of a little hatred or jealousy that fighting each other on matters doesn’t help. Since basically what you say Reebok doesn’t sue adidas, Kanye is still selling well and we’d always want to own at least one pair of Yeezy shoes.
